Every genre of literature has its own unique set of rules. For instance, for a book to be considered a murder mystery the story must open with a sensational and grizzly murder that could have only been committed by a limited number of suspects. The reader follows the protagonist through a labyrinth of clues in search of enough information to figure out who the culprit really is before the end of the book. And if the writer is worth his salt, the reader is surprised at the end. In this regard my latest book Lethal Objection is a classic murder mystery.

However, because my suspects are four trial lawyers and the murder takes place at the end of a sensational wrongful death case, I have been able to bend the rules a bit by wrapping a fast-paced legal thriller around the mystery, so that Lethal Objection is a hybrid of sorts that I hope will not only entertain you, but make you think. The research for this book led me to interview convicted safe crackers, drug dealers, and murderers, which allows the book to crackle with authenticity. Lethal Objection is the second in a series of murder mystery/legal thrillers that address controversial social issues and features the protagonist Edward Mead, a brilliant and sharp-tongued elderly law professor based roughly on my father. The ravages and struggles of old age is a running subplot that ties the series together.

The third book, Lethal Obsession is due out in 2009.
